Section 1
Why do two quotes rarely compare like for like?
Clinics quote in different units, include different things, and describe their plans at different levels of detail. One quote may give a firm number of grafts, another a range, and a third a count of hairs. One may include medication and PRP; another may list them as extras.
Until you line them up against the same questions, you are comparing presentation rather than treatment.
Section 2
What should you compare?
Write each quote against this list. If a quote does not answer a line, ask the clinic in writing.
- Graft range, and whether it is in grafts or hairs
- Technique, and whether shaving is needed
- The doctor responsible, and who performs each stage
- The clinic's registration with the right regulator
- Exactly what is included: medication, PRP, aftercare products
- Aftercare: review appointments, contact, and for how long
- Deposit amount and refund terms
- Any guarantee, and its conditions
- Travel, accommodation, and time off work
Section 3
What does a worked comparison look like?
The two quotes below are illustrative, not real clinics. Quote A is £3,000 for up to 3,500 grafts, with PRP and medication charged as extras and a single follow-up call. Quote B is £3,400 for 2,800 to 3,200 grafts, with PRP and medication included and reviews at one week and at three, six, and twelve months.
Quote A looks cheaper and bigger. Once the extras are added back, the gap narrows or disappears. And A's higher graft figure is only meaningful if your donor area can supply it and your plan needs it; if it was given without a proper donor assessment, it is a promise rather than a plan. B's structured follow-up is worth more than it appears on paper, because aftercare is where problems are caught early.
Section 4
Which differences matter most?
Price differences are the easiest to see and often the least important. The lines that most affect your result are who is responsible for the procedure, whether the graft range was assessed properly, and how aftercare works once you are home.
If two quotes are close on those, choose on price and convenience. If they are not, the cheaper quote is rarely the better value.
